  • 2000 Country bandleader and songwriter Pee Wee King dies in Louisville, Ky. King, who suffered a heart attack on Feb. 28, is 86.
  • 1999 Fresh from capturing two Grammys, Quebec-born Celine Dion dominates the 28th annual Juno Awards. Dion earns symbols of excellence in Canadian music in the categories of female vocalist, album and best-selling album, foreign or domestic, for “Let’s Talk About Love,” best-selling Francophone album for “S’il Suffisait D’Aimer,” as well as the international achievement award for her meteoric accomplishments on the world stage.

  • 1946 Peter Wolf is born in the Bronx, N.Y. He is the lead singer of the J. Geils Band until 1983, reuniting several times with the band, including a reunion tour in 1999. He marries actress Faye Dunaway on Aug. 7, 1974, and divorces her in 1979.
