  • 2000 A family emergency forces Sonic Youth’s husband-and-wife tandem Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon to scrap the band’s opening set for Pearl Jam at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md.
  • 1999 Bassist Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue is arrested at a show in Raleigh, N.C., on charges of inciting a riot at a Greensboro concert in October 1997. Sixx is charged with felony rioting and three misdemeanor charges of inciting a riot, assault, and disorderly conduct.
  • 1999 The Virgin Megastore Web site gets more than it bargained for over the Labor Day weekend, when a half-price sale forces the site to temporarily shut down for most of the day, after being clogged by customers in record-breaking numbers.
