  • 1998 Sony Music Entertainment squashes Best Buy’s Pearl Jam promotion in which the retailer had planned to give away an exclusive live CD by the band to customers who purchase the group’s Epic Video, “Single Video Theory.” Sony files suit, seeking an injunction barring the sale of the CD and damages.
  • 1997 At the request of NASA, Diamond Rio hosts a 30th anniversary bash for the Kennedy Space Center. The group performs in the Rocket Garden area of the Visitor Center.
  • 1988 No. 1 Billboard Pop Hit: “Roll with It,” Steve Winwood. Billboard ranks this the top song of the year.

  • 1965 No. 1 Billboard Pop Hit: “I’m Henry VIII, I Am,” Herman’s Hermits. The song was written in 1911 by Fred Murray and R.P. Weston and was popularized at the time by Cockney comedian Harry Champion.
  • 1963 Final Beatles’ performance at Liverpool’s Cavern Club.
  • 1926 Singer Tony Bennett is born Anthony Dominick Benedetto in Astoria, NY.
